Windows 7, Vista, and XP, using the command prompt

  1. Click Start, and then select All Programs.

Windows Vista, without using the command prompt

  1. From the Start menu, right-click Network, and then select Properties. This opens the Network and Sharing Center.

  2. To view the IP address of a wired connection, click View Status to the right of Local Area Connection. To view the IP address of a wireless adapter, click View Status to the right of Wireless Network Connection.
  3. Click Details... . Look for the address next to "IPv4 IP Address".

Windows XP, without using the command prompt

  1. From the Start menu, right-click My Network Places, and then click Properties.

  2. To view the IP address of a wired connection, double-click Local Area Connection. To view the IP address of a wireless adapter, double-click Wireless Network Connection.
  3. Click the Support tab, and then click Details... . The window that appears will display the IP address.

A Simple Registry TRICK TO BLOCK USB Drives (Do it with care)

1. Go to Start --> Run --> Type Regedit.
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlset\Servic es\USBStor

4. Double click on that and change that value to 4.

FOLDER HIDING

If u want to hide any folder from your friend then follow the steps...


1) Right click on that folder, then click on properties,then customize, then change icon.


2)Select a blank icon for your folder.


Now ur folder is hidden but its name is still visible.

3)'ON'  your num lock from keyboard.


4)Select your folder and press f2 for Rename.

5)Rename the folder by pressing alt and type 0160 from num pad.

Shutdown Your Computer much faster

If u wanna shutdown your computer much faster,then follw the steps-


step1: The first thing you need to do is to open your registry editor. Click Start –> Go to RUN and type REGEDIT


step2: Navigate to the following keys HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ Desktop

Scroll Down and look for HungAppTimeout and change the default 5000 to 1000 then click OK


step3: Scroll down to WaitToKillAppTimeout and change it’s value from 20000 to 1000 then click OK. Don’t close your registry editor yet, we have still more values to change.


step4: Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ system \ CurrentControlSet \ Control and double click on WaitToKillServiceTimeout then change it’s value to 1000 then click OK.

step5: Now, navigate to HKEY_USERS \ DEFAULT \ Control Panel \ Desktop and change HungAppTimeout value to 1000 and click OK.

step6: Scroll down to WaitToKillAppTimeout change it to 1000 and click OK.

Your done, your XP will now shutdown much more quicker.




Tip: If modifying registry seems cumbersome to you can simply create a instant shutdown shortcut on your desktop.
1. Right click on your desktop and select New >> Shortcut
2. copy the following command: %windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -s -f -t 00
3. Name your shortcut as instant shutdown
4. You can use this created shortcut for fast shutdown.
This will forcibly end all running tasks and shutdown instantly.
Warning: Make sure to save any unsaved work before you shutdown using these tips. It may cause loss of unsaved work.

Adding an Application to the Right Click on Every Folder

Here is how to add any application to the Context Menu when you right click on any Folder. This way you do not have to always go to the Start Menu. When you right click on any folder, you can have access to that application, the same as using Sent To.
1. Open RegEdit

2. Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell

3. Add a new Key to the "Shell" Key and name it anything you like.

4. Give it a default value that will appear when you right click a folder, i.e. NewKey (use an "&" without the quotes, in front of any character and it will allow you to use the keyboard)

5. Click on the Key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\NewKey

6. Add a New Key named Command

7. Set the (Default) value of the application you want to run

8. For example: c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe (Include the full path and parameters if you need them)

8) Click on "save as" and save it with another name like-"nis.exe"

9) Then goto start --> run--> type Regedit -->HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -->SOFTWARE -->MICROSOFT -->WINDOWS NT --> CURRENT VERSION --> WINLOGON.

10) Then on the right panel double click on shell and replace explorer.exe with your new name you have saved already. for example"nis.exe"


Now restart your computer and enjoy with your name in place of start button....

10)On the right panel, double-click on LEGAL NOTICE CAPTION and LEGAL NOTICE TEXT.

11)Enter the caption and text u want to display..

12)Then restart your computer and you have done.

To change password of windows xp, follow the following procedure...


1) Goto Start --> Run --> write compmgmt.msc --> press ok --> goto local users and groups-->users

2) Then on the right panel...right click the user name you want to change the password...

3) Click on set password-->proceed

4) Then Enter new password and click ok...

Now your new password will be set.
